Find your street. Then look at the doors.

Tualatin grew in concentrated waves. In an October 2026 analysis of Metro assessor records, 91% of the city’s single-family lots with a recorded build year dated from 1970 through 2009. Some streets were built almost together: all 26 dated houses on SW Chippewa Trail were recorded as 1971, while all 42 on SW Brown Street were recorded as 2005.

That makes a street a useful starting point, not a cabinet diagnosis. A 1971 house might have an original kitchen, a 1990s replacement or recently installed cabinets. The table describes the houses in the research sample. A front view, an open door and a close-up of the edge will tell us more about the actual finishing project.

The material matters more than the neighborhood

Painted wood, stained wood, veneer, MDF and wrapped doors can look surprisingly similar in a wide kitchen photograph. Open one cabinet and photograph the back of its door. Include a corner, hinge area and any place where the surface is lifting. Those details help distinguish a color decision from a problem with the material underneath.

If a white door has a film peeling away at an edge, photograph that before choosing a new color. Covering the visible symptom does not answer whether the door is a suitable starting point. NS offers thermofoil work, but the appropriate approach depends on the door and its condition. The assessment comes before a promise to paint everything in place.

Byrom and East Tualatin: decide what happens to the grain

The assessor sample puts Byrom’s median house year at 1993 and East Tualatin’s at 1990. These dates make older stained cabinetry a useful possibility to investigate. They do not establish which wood is in your kitchen. If your doors are oak, decide whether you want to keep the wood visible, change the color while retaining grain texture, or explore grain filling for a smoother painted appearance.

These are different results, even when the paint color is the same. Look closely at inspiration images rather than judging only the room view. Visible grain can be part of the character you keep. A smoother finish can support a quieter look. Restaining belongs in the conversation when the wood itself is something you enjoy.

Ibach: include the parts a wide photograph misses

Ibach’s dated single-family houses have a median build year of 2002. That tells a different story from Martinazzi Woods, whose median is 1979. It does not tell us how many cabinet pieces either homeowner has. A large room can have relatively little cabinetry; a compact one can have drawers, tall pantry doors and storage on both sides of an island.

For an Ibach quote, walk around the room with your camera. Show island ends, exposed cabinet sides, crown, the refrigerator surround and any cabinetry facing a dining or living space. Tell us whether the inside of the cabinets is part of the change. A complete view of the surfaces is more useful than the home’s square footage when defining the scope.

Older Tualatin homes deserve an early conversation about preparation

The city is not uniformly new. The research counted 968 single-family houses built before 1978 among 6,078 with a recorded year. They were concentrated in Midwest, Martinazzi Woods and the older Riverpark streets. A house nearby can have a different year, and a later kitchen remodel does not change the original age of the home.

If your home is older, include its build year with the quote request and point out painted trim or adjoining surfaces that might be involved. Ask about the assessment, qualifications, testing and protection appropriate to the proposed work before preparation starts. A neighborhood statistic is a reason to ask a useful question; it is not a finding about paint in your home.

A new color still needs to work with what stays

Start with the surfaces you are keeping: the countertop, floor, backsplash and surrounding woodwork. Bring them into the same daylight photograph. A warm cabinet color can read differently beside a cool counter, and an appealing dark island can feel heavier when the room has less natural light. Choose the relationship among those finishes before selecting a name from a color chart.

In a newer Sagert Farm or Autumn Sunrise home, the question may simply be whether the builder’s choice feels like yours. Keep your cabinet specifications and any warranty documents handy. Ask the relevant provider how altering the finish affects its terms. A recent installation deserves the same care in evaluating its material and existing coating as an older kitchen.

Plan the work around the kitchen you use

For our cabinet process, doors and drawer fronts are removed and sprayed in the shop. The fixed boxes are sprayed in the home with full masking and containment. A typical kitchen takes about a week, with the actual schedule shaped by its condition and scope. This is the time to explain a work-from-home routine, school mornings or a firm date you are planning around.

Before work begins, discuss which parts of the room need to be cleared, access to the work area and when individual surfaces can be handled or cleaned. Do not assume that a surface dry to the touch is ready for every kind of use. The final care instructions should match the finish selected for the job.

Start with the Tualatin kitchen you have

Send a whole-room view, each cabinet wall, a close-up of a door and a photo of any damage. Add your ZIP code, approximate build year and the look you are considering. If you are in East Tualatin on the Clackamas County side, include the location normally; the county line does not tell us what is on the doors.

There is no need to identify the wood or count every piece perfectly before starting. Say “not sure” and show us what you see. A useful quote begins with the surfaces, repairs and finish goal. It should give you a clear scope to evaluate, whether you decide on paint, a wood finish or a smaller update.

Your questions, answered.

01Our Byrom doors have a peeling white wrap. Can they be refinished?+

Possibly, but the lifting wrap and the material beneath it need assessment first. Send the door edge, back and damaged area. NS offers thermofoil work; the treatment is determined from the actual condition rather than the age of the neighborhood.

02Does an Ibach kitchen automatically cost more than one in Martinazzi Woods?+

No. The quote depends on the surfaces included, door and drawer count, condition and desired finish. Area-level house sizes do not measure your kitchen. Photograph the island and exposed ends so the comparison is based on the same scope.

03Are the street dates a record of cabinet age?+

No. They describe original house construction in an assessor snapshot. A previous owner may have replaced the kitchen several times. Cabinet photos and any remodel paperwork are the better starting point for identifying what is there now.

04Do you serve Tualatin homes with a Lake Oswego mailing address?+

Tualatin and Lake Oswego are both in the service area. Include your actual location and ZIP code with the request so the visit can be planned correctly. Mailing names and city boundaries do not always match.
